JERRY DICKINSON OUTGUNS FIELD IN STREET STOCK SHOOTOUT AT DEEP SOUTH SPEEDWAY Print E-mail

MICHAEL WEDGEWORTH GRABS FIRST CAREER WIN WITH LAST LAP  PASS IN THURSDAY NITE THUNDER RACING ACTION

Two new faces made appearances in Deep South Speedway's victory lane during THURSDAY NITE THUNDER at the high-banked racing oval just north of the Gulf Coast.  Jerry Dickinson survived early race duels with a handful of stout challengers, then roared on to win the second round of Street Stock Shootout during the special Thursday night schedule at Deep South Speedway.  In the Battle of the Bombers it was a first-ever run to the winner's circle for Flomaton, Alabama's Michael Wedgeworth in a thrilling battle during the last three laps that kept the crowd standing on the hillside of the lightning-fast half mile track.

Dickinson was in the midst of a five-car gunfight for the lead in the second summer round of Street Stock Shootout and used a winning groove around the fast surface at Deep South Speedway to carve out the win. David Windham of Florala had won the first round back on July and was in the mix again as he Dickinson, Donnie Reed, Ricky Haugen, Bobby Resmondo and Michael Williams waged an outright scuffle for positions rocketing around Deep South Speedway's multi-grooved racing surface.  Just past the race's midpoint Dickinson began to take control and blasted to  the win.  Following Dickinson to the finish line were Reed, Haugen, Williams and Resmondo.

The Battle of the Bombers feature gave the fans a big bonus for their five dollar ticket with the last half lap of the race leaving the crowd with an absolute awesome run to the checkered flag.  Michael Wedgeworth had never won a feature event in his young racing career, but the stock car racer from Flomaton made his first trip to a winner's circle with a daring and thrilling three-wide pass for the win as the field exited turn-four on the final lap in the slugfest for the win.  Fourteen year old Jamie Young had led early in the event prior to a flat right rear sidelining his run to glory, but Wedgeworth worked his way through the field and seized the shot at the win with a daring run  against the wall to take the victory.  Second through fifth in the Battle of the Bombers were Al Hardy, Justin Barnes, Tanner Palmer and James Willis.
