As Friday afternoon comes to a close, officials at Deep South Speedway have decided that due to all of the rain, there simply is not time for the racing surface to dry out enough to even bring the grader on the track. "The rain keeps falling here, and radar shows more on the way." said race promoter Mark Joiner.
The action continues next Saturday night as the ragin' Cajun Sprint Cars storm Deep South Speedway. Don't miss the fastest short track racing on the Gulf Coast! Fan Appreciation night has been postponed. Check back soon and look for when Deep South Speedway announces the new date!

Deep South Officials Looking After Huge Rainfall … |
|
Friday, 16 May 2008 |
|
Deep South Speedway
officials are looking at the large amount of rainfall that has pelted the
speedway since Thursday night around 10 p.m... According to Bill Webb, “We
worked the track surface all day Thursday in preparation for fan appreciation
day this Saturday night and we were not through with our hard-pack when the
rain started. I won’t really know how bad the damage is until we can get on the
track maybe later today or tonight.”
Webb, who has fought
rain several times this season, has proven he will work tirelessly to make a
show for the fans, but sometimes the problems can be insurmountable. Webb said
he would make a determination by early morning tomorrow as to the condition of
the track surface and whether or not he thinks he can put on a good show for
the racers and fans. “We are not counting out anything at this point but with
the problems we have had in the past with large amounts of rain falling really
quickly and the weeping we get under the walls and onto the track just almost
makes it impossible to fix on such a short time frame,” Webb explained.
If the race is not called off, the fans that come out early
will also be treated to a special tour of the infield area that will be lined
with race cars and drivers from your favorite division. Deep
South will ask drivers to put their cars in the infield area along
the front straight-away wall so fans can go down and get an up-close and
personal look at their favorite Saturday night car and driver.

and for any track news.

Fan Appreciation This Saturday Night … |
|
Tuesday, 13 May 2008 |
|
Deep South Speedway
management wants to show the loyal race fans of 2008 how much their
participation in each Saturday night’s event is….so this weekend, grandstand
tickets will be $8.00 for adults.
Fans that come out
early will also be treated to a special tour of the infield area that will be
lined with race cars and drivers from your favorite division. Deep
South will ask drivers to put their cars in the infield area along
the front straight-away wall so fans can go down and get an up-close and
personal look at their favorite Saturday night car and driver. “I want to give
the fans a chance to see up close the car they cheer for every Saturday night,”
Bill Webb said about the fan appreciation idea he has planned for this weekend.
The infield tour
will begin around 5:30 in the afternoon and run until about 6:30, so fans will
have time to look at all the race cars without having to buy a pit pass, and
hopefully be able to get some driver autographs as well. “I want the fans to
bring a Sharpie and something for their favorite driver to autograph,” Webb
added. “This is a time when fans in the stands get to meet the stars in the
cars.” There will also be special give-a-ways from different vendors during the
racing event.
Deep South Speedway
will be running a regular schedule this weekend including these classes: GM
Performance Crate Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Super Hobby, Hobby Stock,
Stinger and Vintage. Remember, the
racing program will begin later than usual (7:00 p.m.) because of the heating
of the day on the track surface. Temperatures are forecast to be in the 80’s
and it should be a great night for racing. Pit admission is $25 for adults, $10
for kids 6-12, and 5 and under free with paying adult. Grandstand admission is
$8 for adults and $5 for kids 6-12 and 5 and under free with adult. Also, don’t
forget to ask about your senior citizen discounts and military discounts.

Saturday Night Action Takes Deep Breath… |
|
Tuesday, 13 May 2008 |
|
Deep South Speedway
saw exciting action Saturday night in all divisions, but when the Hobby Stocks
took the track, the excitement soon came to a breathtaking stop as one of the
drivers made an evasive move and met a sudden stop with the turn one wall.
Shannon Hodges,
driving his fast and familiar #8 Monte Carlo, was making a sweep down the front
straight at full speed when another car, trying to exit the track and
apparently not seeing the #8 stock car of Hodges, pulled into the path of
Hodges. Shannon swerved to the right to avoid
crashing into the car and hit the turn one exit-way head-on, immediately
stopping the car with Hodges in it,
